17 Jun Events/New in Store
Tonight! A Peterborough installment of World Wide Knitting in Public Week! Knitters are converging on Hunter Street between Aylmer and George (near the Bell building with the ornate door) to raise the public profile of knitting in our community! This event has been organized by the Elegant Spider knitting group, but all knitters are welcome. Drop by any time between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.!
And this Sunday is the third installment of the Summer of Socks workshops! This time around we’re doing toe-up socks, with instruction on how to work a provisional cast-on, and how to work short row toes (with instructions for short row heels – it’s practically the same thing). This is an excellent technique when you’re unsure of how much yarn you have. If using two balls of yarn for a pair, you just knit to the end of the ball! If using one big ball, you can weigh the remaining yarn at intervals during your first sock to make sure you have at least half a ball left! Workshops are $15, not including materials – participants can bring or buy their yarn and needles. 🙂 Hope to see you!
And now, just because it’s a beautiful day, here’s some beautiful yarn! I received a wee little bit of Fleece Artist and Handmaiden this week – sadly no sock yarn yet (you know I’m waiting to get my hands on some of that!!) – but lovely yarn nonetheless:
Lace weight Silk in two new colourways! “Straw” and “Moss”
The Baby Wrapper Kit in “Sugar Plum”
4-ply Cashmere in a blue, blue-green, blue-gray (there seems to be a pattern here…?), and undyed white.
And Merino Rovings in all sorts of fun colours!!
