Upcoming Classes

This is the first year that we’ve extended our fall class schedule into December (please someone explain to me how it is already NOVEMBER? Yikes!), so here’s a quick look at what’s still coming up!

The Hopsalots Knit-along starts this Sunday with Chloë! Affectionately now known as the “Hopsalong”, these slippers will knit up quickly with bulky weight, felt them at home, and come back for the second KAL session on Sunday, December 1st! (both sessions run from 2-4 p.m.) KAL’s are no-charge if the yarn is purchased here! (and it’s just one skein of Berroco Peruvia Quick for these funny bunnies! The pattern is available here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hopsalots )

We have a special Festive Crochet class scheduled for the next two Wednesdays, the 20th and 27th from 7 to 9 p.m. – Monica will help you through a pattern for a little snowman (seen above, currently hanging out by the cash register!) or snowflake! Check out our Classes page for links to the patterns – http://www.needlesinthehay.ca/classes.html Cost: $40 not including materials (bring or buy!)

Our popular 2-session Beginner Refresher/Intro to Knitting in the Round class is happening again the next two Thursdays, the 21st and 28th from 7 to 9 p.m. If you’ve been away from knitting for a while and want to brush up on your knits and purls, OR if you’ve recently learned the basics of knitting flat items and want to take your knitting practice to the next level, this is the class for you! We learn the long-tail cast-on, and get started knitting in the round with this easy ribbed hat. Keep working on it in the week inbetween and come back for the second Thursday to decrease the top! Presto! A hat! Cost: $40 not including materials (100g of worsted weight yarn, plus contrast for optional stripes, one 16-inch circular needle and double-pointed needles to match, usually in a 4.5mm or 5mm size, all bring or buy).

After you’ve explored knitting in the round, you can apply your new skill to all sorts of garments – like mittens! Our next Intro to Mittens class is Thursday December 5th from 7 – 9 p.m., where we knit a mini-mitten like the one pictured above! All the essential steps of knitting a mitten, but condensed into a nice 2-hour session. Cost: $20 not including materials (50g of worsted weight yarn and set of double-pointed needles in approx. 4mm size).

Also upcoming:

Mixed Media Needlefelting! Saturday November 30th, 2-4 p.m. Join Rae for an adventurous afternoon of fiber manipulation, using wool as well as  animal and plant materials to construct a multi-media bird’s nest. Experience with needlefelting is recommended but not required. Participants are encouraged to bring media components (dried grasses, twigs, flowers, clean feathers, furs, or wools) if they can. (side note: wouldn’t sprigs of rosemary be cool to use? A festive and *aromatic* birds nest!) Cost: $20.

Beginner Rug Hooking! A repeat of our popular new rug hooking class, but on a weekday evening! Thursday December 12th, 7-9 p.m. with Margot! Cost is $25 plus materials – kits will be available with *everything* you need (hoop, hook, burlap, pattern, yarn!) for $25, and there will be a selection of regular and Christmas-related designs to choose from!

Send an email to info@needlesinthehay.ca to reserve your spot!
