new yarns + something special

A whole bunch of new yarn arrived in the last week!

A restock of Cascade Ecological Wool and Eco+ in our most popular neutrals and autumnal shades!

Bright new skeins of Indigodragonfly Merino Sock and MCN Sock!

A restock of Crazy Zauberballs and Trekking XXL sock yarns!

And a brand new tweed – Kenzie! Made in New Zealand, it consists of 50% Merino, 25% Nylon, 10% Angora, 10% Alpaca, and 5% Silk Noils for that wonderful speckled tweediness. It knits to 20 stitches per 4 inches, a light worsted or heavy DK gauge! Perfection!

In other, somewhat more personal, news of the last week, I hit a milestone birthday on Saturday: the big 30. In typical fashion, I of course cast-on a new sweater to soften the blow:

This is “White Pine” by Amy Christoffers (one of my favourite designers!), which I’m knitting in one of my favourite yarns (Berroco Ultra Alpaca!). I’ve wanted a classic grey cardigan for a while, and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to treat myself despite my outstanding commitments to Christmas knitting and shop samples.

However, I also wanted to celebrate this milestone in another way, too:

In honour of achieving my 30th year on earth, I want to give away a $30 gift certificate for Needles in the Hay to one of my blog readers!

Simply comment on this post and tell me what you’re knitting these days (or what you wish you were knitting!), I will draw a winner by means of random number generator on Friday, November 22nd, at 5 p.m. and announce the winner in a post. The comment link is at the top of the post where it says “Leave a Comment”, and make sure to enter a valid email address so I can get in touch with you! Good luck!

Happy Birthday!! Wish I could say my next birthday would be my 30th. πŸ™‚ I am busily knitting Newfoundland mittens for all the girls on my Christmas list and toques for all the boys. Last year I made lounge pants for everyone for Christmas and socks for their birthdays so this year I wanted to do something different. The socks were so popular that everyone has requested more. My youngest grandson calls them “the awesome socks that Grandma made”. It is such a nice feeling when you know your hand knit gifts are truly appreciated.

    Yay for being 30!!

Right now I’m knitting the Eclipse Top by Hilary Smith Callis. It’s my first sweater knit in sock yarn, and BOY is it ever slow going… But the resulting fabric is lovely and drapey and I imagine it will end up being a wardrobe staple.

I just recently got into Fair Isle, so I wish I was knitting a colourwork project. All in good time… πŸ™‚

I just recently finished some Baby Combat Booties, and will probably make a few more pairs, they’re adorable! I’m also knitting up a whack of dishcloths for Christmas gifts, currently on some pink pig shaped ones, what I wish I was knitting were socks, there’s nothing like hand knitted wool socks. I’d also like to finish a lovely lace infinity cowl/scarf that I started months ago….

Happy Birthday Bridget! 30 is an awesome birthday (recently had 35 and it was fun too) I hope you had a fantastic birthday weekend. Birthdays are a perfect excuse to start something new for yourself. I’ve become a firm believer in always having at least one personal project on the needles at all times (even this close to Christmas). I am currently being enticed away from Christmas knitting (wrist warmers, boot cuffs and probably something for my under a year old niece) with ankle socks out of that awesome Crazy Zauberballs yarn! I am so addicted to socks right now πŸ™‚

Congrats Bridget on reaching a milestone. I love the look of your new tweed stock. Got me dreaming, of after, or perhaps before Christmas project. will be down asap to have a squishy, feel. This week I am very busy finishing up a tunic top and hoodie for our granddaughter, as well the seamingless endless hoodie for our grandson, all who I will be visiting next week. As well have I have a Christmas stocking on my needles and a little sweater for Juice, our daughter’s rescue pup. And for our mitten KAL, I have completed 2 pairs of colourwork mittens, and a set of liners. I chose to knit the liners separate so they could be inserted into any of my mittens as required, also quicker drying time.

    Until we meet again Brenda

Try wrapping a strip of blue paper around a red gift, or overlaying
some sheer or tissue paper over some bold or thick paper.
If the decision is made to go to a local store to choose a false
tree, they have the same choices, but they also have the opportunity to choose the color of
their tree. Then bring the diagonally opposite corners together and tie into a knot.
