    What exactly is “superwash”?

“Superwash” is a chemical treatment to remove the scales from the surface of wool fibers so that they won’t stick to each other when exposed to heat/moisture/agitation (like, a normal wash cycle), thus preventing the tragic heartbreak of accidentally felted handknits. It’s usually achieved either through a chlorine-base process or a polymer coating, or sometimes a combination of both. A Google search of “superwash wool process” can give you more details. 🙂
