We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Christine Laframboise, Founder of Waxwing Yarn Company to the Hayloft on October 25!
The idea for Waxwing Yarn started several years ago when Christine was searching for local wool options and had a challenging time finding just the right product for her projects. At the same time, she was growing frustrated by her ever growing stash of wool.
Waxwing Yarn was born from Christine’s belief in the exceptional quality of Canadian wool, the need for smaller volume yarn options, and her desire to create a safe and inclusive space where all makers can come together and share their craft. Waxwing’s mission is to offer premium, ethically sourced yarn that embodies sustainability, craftsmanship, and creativity.

Through Waxwing Yarn, Christine hopes to inspire a community that values the artistry of all textile arts while committing to eco-conscious practices. Together, let's craft a brighter, more sustainable future, one stitch at a time.

She will also be presenting an inspiring and transparent look at what it means to build a yarn brand rooted in purpose. This talk explores the personal frustrations that sparked the idea for Waxwing Yarn—namely, the all-too-familiar problem of project leftovers and the challenge of finding sustainable, budget-conscious options for intentional makers.
Christine will share the journey of transforming that frustration into a mission-driven company guided by three core pillars: sustainability, transparency, and community. Attendees will hear the full behind-the-scenes story of how Waxwing Yarn came to life—from discovering and partnering with a Canadian farm to choosing a domestic spinner and mill, and navigating the real-world limitations of Canadian manufacturing along the way.
Whether you’re a fibre enthusiast, a conscious consumer, or simply curious about what it takes to bring a yarn brand to market, this presentation offers a rare glimpse into the intersection of passion, purpose, and production. It’s a story about more than yarn—it’s about reimagining how we craft, and why it matters.
