Try a new Technique: Mosaic Knit Along!

Try a new Technique: Mosaic Knit Along!

Hello Knitters! Deanna here.

Making Lisa Hannes’ mosaic shawl for the Malabrigo Dos Tierras sample made me fall head over heels in love with the mosaic colourwork technique. As someone who doesn’t particularly love doing stranded colourwork (those pesky floats slow me down and it drives me nuts), mosaic was the answer to my prayers!

With mosaic you create beautiful and visually impactful colourwork motifs with one colour at a time using slipped stitches. You only need to change colours every second row by carrying the strands up the side just like doing stripes.

I love mosaic so much I want to share it with all of you by way of a knit along! This knit along will be great for people looking at doing entry level colourwork, and people who want to learn or improve their chart reading skills.

I’ve put together three potential patterns for knit along participants to choose:

Barnstable by Lisa Hannes: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/barnstable

The pattern that inspired my love of mosaic. Knitting this in Malabrigo Dos Tierras is a real treat. You just need to squish our store sample to know why!

I’m leaning towards this one for myself! I’ll take any excuse to use Malabrigo Mechita.

Eifelgold by Melanie Berg: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/eifelgold

Melanie Berg is basically the shawl queen. All her patterns are amazing!

Here are the Knit along dates for those who would like to join in. Participation is free with yarn purchase. Requirements vary based on the pattern.

The Sarahs and I will be happy to get you set up with yarn and a pattern in store. The Knit along will be run by me!
