Hudson + West is a new yarn company dedicated to bringing innovative American-made yarns to the handknitting market, along with modern and wearable designs that highlight those yarns’ best qualities.
Designer-driven and knitter-focused, Hudson + West is about making yarns that you’ll want to return to over and over. They create yarns that support the ready-to-wear inspired garments and accessories that form the core of the modern knitter’s wardrobe. And they source and produce our yarns in the U.S., using a traceable, sustainable, and fair supply chain.
Like its big sibling, Forge, Weld is made from a heathered blend of 70% U.S. Merino wool sourced in Colorado and New Mexico, and 30% U.S. Corriedale wool sourced in New York. Weld is a well-balanced three-ply yarn, with a slightly more energetic twist for strength and durability. It has a beautiful balance of stitch definition, bounce, and wooly, cohesive bloom that produces both beautiful stockinette fabrics and delicate lace, texture, and brioche, and is perfect for stranded colorwork. Weld blooms beautifully and easily knits up on larger needles; we like it on anywhere from a US 3 to a US 6 (3.25 to 4.00 mm), depending on the application.
