Top Down Sweater Essentials

Top down sweaters are the perfect entry point into the world of sweater knitting because you can customize them on the fly! Minimal finishing (no seaming!) is also a nice bonus.

In this 3 part class, we’ll knit a child sized sweater together learning about all the essential techniques of top down raglan sweaters along the way. After week 3 you’ll have all of the tools you need to make any top down raglan pattern your heart desires.

Pre-requisites: This Class is designed for the adventurous beginner knitter and beyond. Participants should be comfortable with the knit and purl stitches, and knitting in the round before registering.

Homework: You will be required to knit a gauge swatch and bring it to the first class. Further instructions will be provided upon registration.

Materials: Not Included. Bring or Buy. Visit us at the shop and we’ll be happy to set you up for success.

Pattern: Flax by Tin Can Knits (free download). you may choose any size from 0 to 10 years.

Yarn: Worsted weight
Recommended Yarns:

-Soft Donegal
-Daylights
-Coast

Needles:
US #6 / 4 mm and US #8 / 5 mm
(or as required to meet gauge)

0 to 2 yrs: 16” circular, and DPNs* in each size.
4 to 10 yrs: 16”, 24” circulars, and DPNs* in each size.

*Alternatively you can use the magic loop technique to knit in the round using a single long circular needle. We will not be covering magic loop in class so please make sure you know this technique in advance if you choose this route*
