Manchelopis is a singular yarn born of Manchega wool from the same breed of sheep known for Manchego cheese. This breed has long been overlooked for knitting, but one that Wooldreamers has championed for its softness and exceptional quality.
Every step of this yarn's journey, from the flocks that provide the fleece to the spinning itself, takes place in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The collection is named in honest tribute to its roots.
Nature's own palette. By blending white and black Manchega wool and dyed colours, Wooldreamers has coaxed a range of colours inspired by the local landscape.
The white wool comes from Las Banderas Livestock in the highlands of Serranía de Cuenca, where shepherd Raúl tends his flock with a centuries-old practice: each season, he leads his sheep on transhumance to the Sierra de Andújar in search of fresh pasture.
The dark wool belongs to José, who keeps one of the last remaining flocks of black Manchega sheep. They roam freely across the Montes de Toledo, returning to the farm only when they need his care.
Together, these two flocks are living proof that a native breed can be both preserved and celebrated. Though not merino, Manchega wool earns its place through a natural lustre and a surprisingly gentle hand.
Manchelopis is wound into 100g plates (or "cheeses") with two strands and works beautifully at a range of gauges depending on how many strands you hold together.
2 strands held together: 230m / 100g · Needles: 6mm–8mm
Tension: 12 sts × 24 rows over 10cm on a 6mm needle.
1 strand: 460m / 100g · Needles: 3.25mm–4.0mm
Tension: 22 sts × 32 rows over 10cm on a 4mm needle.
